10 ways to survive your wedding day

Top tips to help you through the day

All your plans have come together nicely, and your beautiful day is now on the horizon. All that’s left to do now is to get yourself to the wedding on time and enjoy your special day, and here are top tips to help you do so.

Don't forget to bring a comfortable pair of shoes on your wedding day

Pre-wedding day

Wedding shoes

They may look like shoes fit for a princess, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to feel heavenly. Unfortunately pretty shoes tend to come at a price – a painful one. So, if you have a feeling you could start to lose the feeling in your toes, bring a comfy pair to change into. It’s unlikely that anyone will be able to see them beneath your dress and this way you can dance away to your heart’s content.

Pack a small bag

Have a little bag of all the little bits you might need on the day; make-up, perfume, hair pins. It’s also worth bringing some ‘just-in-case’ items such as make up remover, and a mini sewing kit. This can all be given to your mother/maid of honour to look after for you (or anyone that’s going to be sitting near you after the ceremony), and left on the main table.

Plan your wedding night

If you’re staying in a hotel on the night of your wedding, plan to have everything taken there in advance; this will be the place you relax and unwind after your perfect day, so you should definitely have everything ready for the perfect wedding evening. It’s also likely that you’re going to be a bit peckish, so have some food and drinks at the ready before you get there.

Final checks

Make sure you do some final checks of everything the night before to avoid any last-minute panics on the day. No doubt you’ll double/triple check everything, but once that’s done you should rest at ease. You’ve done all the planning, so relax before the big day. One extra thing worth checking you have, especially if you have unpredictable weather, is an umbrella (obvious yet easily forgotten).

Sweet dreams

Last but not least, for your last few days of single life, get some sleep! It goes without saying really, the more you sleep you get, the better you’re going to feel (and look) on the day; so, plan an early night, and get to sleep as early as possible. This may be easier said than done, but having a relaxing bath with some nice food and a cheeky drink to calm any nerves should do the trick.

On the day

Line your stomach

It’s an exciting day, which can sometimes have an impact on your appetite, but it’s very important to make sure you get the good stuff inside you. The last thing you want is to be feeling light-headed as you walk down the aisle (or tummy rumbling making an appearance mid-way through your vows), so make sure you have a nice and healthy breakfast and enjoy the dinner you’ve arranged on the day. Packing a few light nibbles, for ‘just-in-case’ is handy too.

Watch what you drink

It’s your big day, and champagne will be flowing, but make sure you pace yourself – you don’t want to draw a blank when you try to remember your wedding day. So, try and incorporate some water into your drinking. Making sure you eat throughout the day should also stop you getting too drunk too quick.

The speeches

Enjoy the speeches, and laugh along; even if you don’t think they’re funny. Take anything bad said with a pinch of salt; hopefully no-one will come out with any shockers, but if they do, don’t react. Your guests will usually supply them with an incredibly awkward silence if this is the case, which should embarrass them a suffice amount for the time being.

The unexpected

In the unlikely event that something does go amiss, don’t let it affect the rest of your day. You’ll have plenty of people around you for support, so go to them to help with the problem, then try and let it go and enjoy your day. No-one wants a small problem to affect how you remember the day.

Enjoy the day

The most important point we can leave you with is to enjoy your beautiful day! Take the time to talk to your guests and enjoy all the compliments and paparazzi-like photos that will be taken. Take in the full atmosphere and smile away – this is your big day and you should embrace everything that happens on it.
