How to achieve flawless foundation

How to achieve flawless foundation

Achieving the perfect looking skin, using foundation is quite possibly the most difficult part to get right when applying make-up. If you are doing your own wedding make-up there are a few factors to consider when using foundation, such as, the colour, coverage and finish. Once you have found your perfect foundation, then the application and technique need to be mastered in order to achieve flawless looking foundation.

So here is my compilation of tips and advice for applying flawless foundation for your wedding day.

  • First of all, lightly exfoliate skin before applying any make-up, just to remove any surface dead skin cells. You will find make-up application is more even and smoother.
  • Apply your regular moisturiser and leave to soak into the skin for 10-15 minutes prior to make-up application.
  • If you have oily skin now is the time to use some oil blotting sheets to remove excess oil before applying make-up- most cosmetics companies sell these. Oil blotting sheets are very effective; just take a sheet and press it onto the forehead hold for 2-3 seconds and repeat around the entire facial area.
  • There are three main options available for applying liquid foundation these are: sponge, fingers or brush. I personally prefer using fingers or a brush, because sponges tend to absorb the liquid, therefore there is a lot of make-up wastage. But I do use sponges to soften and blend make-up, so they are a useful cosmetic tool. But for all over application, my advice is to opt for either fingers or a brush.
  • Apply foundation primer over face. Make sure you select the right primer for your skin needs.
  • This step will help perfect your skins texture-apply any products for your personal skin needs, for example: if you have visible open pores, then apply a pore minimizing product.
  • Using your desired foundation: blend make-up over entire face. Make sure you blend into skin folds such as around the nose and under eyes.
  • When applying liquid foundation, if you want to make the coverage heavier, then use a dabbing and patting motion. Dab foundation and layer until required coverage is achieved. I would advise to use a sponge or fingers for this technique.
  • If you would like to achieve a lighter or more natural coverage, then you can mix your foundation with a make up thinning product or a moisturiser.
  • Sometimes foundation can appear patchy if this does happen, apply a tiny amount of moisturiser to the patchy area, to help even out product
  • Now using a large powder brush, apply loose powder-be careful to not apply to much as you do not want the skin to appear over powdered. Loose powder is recommended to help fix the foundation keeping make-up in place plus it takes away any shine. You can also carry a pressed powder with you just to touch up skin and take away any shine that may show through later in the day.

    Until next time!
