I am a huge fan of facials because they are incredibly beneficial for skin health and its appearance. Facials are a treatment I often recommend to my bridal clients, just to help give their skin a boost before the big day. Although facials are an excellent treatment, some ladies find they may require a deeper or more intensive treatment-especially those who have uneven skin tone, pigmentation, acne scaring or sun damage. If this is the case then microdermabrasion or chemical peels may be a good option. Here is some useful information I have compiled to help you learn more about these skin treatments and if they are possibly something you would like to consider.
What are the benefits of a Chemical peel?
Removes damaged outer layers of skin to promote smoother, healthier, a younger-looking and glowing complexion. They are an excellent treatment for reducing blemishes, some skin pigmentations, wrinkles and fine lines.
Who carries out facial peel procedure?
Chemical peels are usually carried out by a dermatologist, beauty therapist or plastic surgeon.
About the treatment:
The skin care professional applies a chemical solution to the skin to facilitate the removal of dead skin. There are a few varieties of chemical peels available, but the most common and gentle chemical peel is the alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). Alpha Hydroxy Acids, accelerate the skin's natural exfoliation process by weakening the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. This process allows dead skin cells to exfoliate off the skin more quickly, creating a tighter skin cell composition. This also stimulates more rapid growth of new skin cells, that are softer and more hydrated, resulting in a visible reduction of fine lines.
How long does the treatment take?
On average treatment takes about 20 -30 minutes
What are the contra-actions of the treatment?
The treatment should not hurt, however you may feel some discomfort usually mild stinging sensation. Most people will find their skin may look more pink or red after treatment but redness will fade within 12-48 hours.
How Many Treatments are required?
You will see results after one treatment. However, if you are treating a concern such as pigmentation or scaring, then a course of treatments may be required.
How much does the treatment cost?
Chemical peels start from £65-£70.00 per treatment.

What are the benefits of a Microdermabrasion treatment?
Microdermabrasion is an ideal treatment for reducing mild to moderate sun damage, scarring, wrinkles and other superficial skin problems.
Who carries out a Microdermabrasion treatment?
Dermatologist or beauty therapist
About the treatment:
Microdermabrasion is a technique for removing the topmost layer of skin, by gently exfoliating the skin with natural diamond chips, while at the same time vacuuming the dead skin cells away. Removing this outer layer of dead skin cells leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells.
How long does Microdermabrasion take?
The treatment takes about 40-45 minutes.
What are the contra-actions of the treatment?
The treatment is painless, and if you experience any redness it should disappear within 48 hours.
How many treatments are required?
A course of microdermabrasion treatments are recommended for optimum results, around four to ten treatments is the average recommendation.
How much does the treatment cost?
Prices normally start from around £60.00 per treatment.
If you are interested in having one or both of the above treatments-then do be sure to research, and find a reputable therapist or dermatologist.
Until next time,
Happy Make-uping!
