Before the wedding day arrives, make sure you do your best to keep lips in good condition. Here are just a few tips for healthy, beautiful lips!
- If lips a dry and flaky do not be tempted to pick, pull or nibble the peeling skin. When suffering with flaky lips use a lip exfoliator, these are available from most cosmetic houses. Lip exfoliators are extremely gentle and effective. Remember to also apply a deeply hydrating lip balm regularly.
- If you are exposed to sunlight, do not forget to apply an SPF protection to the lips as they can burn easily.
Following on from last week’s article, once you have found your perfect lipstick. It is now time for application!
For perfect lipstick application, I advise to do the following:
- Use a lip brush when applying lipstick. As it will give you more control and precision in application, ensuring that you don’t smudge past and over the natural lip line.
- Always use a lip liner before applying lipstick, which will give the lip line definition. Also apply liner over entire lip to increase wear and longevity. A great tip when using liner is to make sure the pencil is not too sharp in order to avoid creating a line that looks too harsh
- When applying lip stick keep the lips relaxed so you do not distort lip appearance and create an unnatural shape.

- Apply foundation to the lip and a tiny bit of loose powder
- Fill entire lip with lip liner
- Apply desired lipstick- remember matt lip sticks are a good choice for increasing lasting power
- Blot lips with a tissue and apply another coat of lip colour
- Finish with a lip stick sealer/fixer-available from pharmacies and cosmetic houses
By using the correct lip products and tools different lip shapes can created, you can make lips appear fuller or decrease their appearance, here is how to do it.
To create a fuller lip:
- You will need two lip liners, both lip liners should be a similar colour to the lip stick and ideally one lip liner needs to be slightly darker than the other.
- Start by using the slightly darker lip liner, and trace just slightly out side your natural lip line, but just so there is still contact with the natural line-You want to make lips look fuller but not unnatural.
- If you make any mistakes when applying lip liner, get a q-tip and gently erase mistake and a touch of concealer if need be, then re-apply liner.
- Once you are happy with the desired shape, you can now apply the lighter lip liner and fill the entire lip area.
- Now using a lip brush, apply your lipstick colour
If you have fuller lips but would like to make them appear slightly smaller, follow the above, but trace just inside of the natural lip line, using a neutral lip pencil.
When applying lipstick, or in-fact any make-up products do be experimental, for example, I often use eye liner as a lip liner, especially if I want to create a really intense colour. Here are a couple of examples where I have used eyeliner on lips to create drama.

Before signing of for today and just for a bit of fun, I have decided to leave you with some fascinating facts about lipstick!
- Lipstick sales usually increase on grey, rainy days
- 97% women between 20 and 35 wear lipstick
- 60% of women own more than 10 lipsticks.
Until next time,
Happy Make-uping!
