TV Modern v Traditional

For the majority of girls the dress seems to be the headline act, particularly with programmes such as Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, Don't Tell the Bride and Four Weddings highlighting the dress to be a substantial- literally, part of their wedding day. There are three main factors that these programmes seem to hone in on, the dress, the venue and the after party. I understand these are important aspects to consider for your big day but shouldn't the husband-to-be, friends and family members override these mere materialistic possessions? The programmes seem to have turned weddings into somewhat of a competition, brides battling for a honeymoon of a lifetime, granted a 5 star luxury holiday but the lavish rigmarole of bride competition is surely unnecessary. The traditional elements such as the ceremony has been skipped over, out the window with the white wedding dresses and in with the red, blue and rainbow coloured. I'm all up for moving with the times but do we have to be led by Big Fat Gypsy Weddings?
I'm clinging on! Tradition all the way!

hannah 'I definitely agree, I think people lose sense of what the day is all about coz they're so focused on the dress and putting on a good show! I think it's better to have a small day and focus on your guests and husband if a big event is going to distract you from that.' added 21st Apr 2012

Jess 'I agree too - traditional definitely what I'd prefer. I'd like to keep ours as small as possible and enjoy the day with all the people I'm close to! ' added 27th May 2012
