Q I'm wanting a really fifties vintage look but don't really feel like I want one of those beehive style veils. What are my other options?
A Two of my favourite accessories for fifties style outfits are birdcage veils or a really glamorous headpiece like a comb or hairband – you definitely don't need to stick with the traditional poofy veils.

My dad has asked me if he needs to wear a particular colour suit (he has several) to work in with the wedding party. I'd not even thought about it - what do you think?
It might be nice for him to blend in with the rest of the wedding party so that it makes it look like he's part of the whole picture, or alternatively you may rely on a corsage to show he's an important wedding personage and want him to dress in a... Read more
My soon to be mother-in-law has just showed me her outfit she's just purchased for the wedding, and it's white(!). I'm not too bothered, but know that some brides would be. Is there any reason why?
The general reason it's considered poor taste to wear white to a wedding is that you might upstage the bride. However if you're not bothered, it's probably ok. The only thing is that she might raise a few eyebrows amongst the other guests. Try to get her... Read more
I've got multi-coloured bridesmaid dresses (we've got a gorgeous flowery print) and I've been wondering what to do with the flowers. Should we go multi-colour with those too or just one colour?
I would probably just go with one colour in the bouquets to pull the look together, but you could incorporate some of the other colours in your bridesmaid dresses in other flower arrangements you use (such as on the tables). Read more
I've got a fairly plain vintage style dress which is tea length and am looking for an ornate pair of gorgeous shoes to go with it, but am really struggling. Do you have any tips?
Try looking at Hassall, and specifically their shoe called Pearl Drift - it's gorgeously ruffled, with pearls and crystals, and has a lovely vintage vibe. Read more
We're getting married next year and my man wants to get married in what will be fashionable then. I know it's hard to say, but do you know what colour is predicted to be fashionable for blokes in the next couple of years?
Grey is fashionable right now and will remain fashionable through next year, whether you go with pale or dark charcoal. The other colour tipped to become fashionable is blue, whether it be navy or a grey-blue. But grey is definitely a safely fashionable... Read more
I really like the new demure look that's fashionable at the moment but my fiance wants me to look sexy! Is there any way to incorporate both?
Absolutely! Some of the demure looks have a gorgeously low-cut back which gives you the best of both worlds and I'm sure would make your other half very happy. Alternatively, why not consider a mermaid silhouette which clings to every curve and is... Read more
My bridesmaids are wearing dresses that will have loads of different colours throughout the fabric. Should I get the florist to use lots of different colours in the bouquet, or just stick to one.
Definitely just stick to one colour - otherwise the overall look will lack cohesion and could end up looking a bit messy. One colour will pull the whole thing together beautifully. Read more
I'm really short, my fiance is really tall, and I really want to wear high heels on my wedding day! However I'm worried that if I go with something too high, I'll end up killing my feet. What should I do?
I'd recommend you look for a great pair of platforms! They'll give you height but won't kill your feet in the process (so long as you get ones that feel comfy). It's also a good idea to have a back-up pair of white flats for wandering about afterwards if... Read more
I love the dresses around that have drop waists, but don't know if they'd suit me. What body shape would you need to have to look good?
That's actually a bit debatable - one school of thought says that only long torso people should wear drop waists, and another says that only short waisted people should. So the jury is officially out. One thing both sets agree on - you'll need to be slim... Read more
I love hydrangeas and am getting married next summer so am definitely going to have hydrangeas as my wedding flowers. The ones I want are the blue ones - what bridesmaid colour do you think?
Ah, excellent choice - hydrangeas are my favourite flower too! You could have a slightly vintage vibe and pair them up with a lovely raspberry red. You could go with a lovely mossy green which would look gorgeous. You could opt for chocolate brown, or... Read more
